Tag team

Is it just me or do your kids play ‘tag team’ too? It literally seems like every time I get one baby settled down or asleep, the other one knows it and starts fussing, wants attention, begins crying, and/or all out screaming. We have an 8 week old, an almost 2 year old and a 10 year old. Yes, the 10 year old participates in this game as well. There is no age limit on this one so occasionally their Dad is included as a participant too.

It’s like they all have this secret code or language as to when to act out. Or they use tactics such as my 2 year old sweetly says “I need you”. What Mother can deny their child when they say “I need you”….. And trust me he knows it. My 10 year old we only have ½ the time so of course I feel compelled to jump when he needs something, I mean really how much longer is he gonna “need me”. Lets face it, even the men in our lives ‘need’ us too. Iit never fails as soon as the house is quiet, just as soon as you pour yourself into bed, he rolls over and asks sweetly “Will you scratch my back?”……..you know your answer so desperately wants to be “no” but at this point in your relationship this IS the only “intimate” time you get together sooooo I scratch away lovingly. Just as I fall into that really deep sleep, you know the one you long for when you have a newborn, the baby wakes up, I nurse him and get him back to sleep when, “Tag, your it” our 2 year old comes walks in crying at 3 am. I finally get him settled in (most of the time just to get back to sleep he just stays in our bed) when, “Tag, your it” the baby needs to eat again.

The baby starts to stir again grunting and groaning about 6am as to give off a warning so I scoop him up and bring him out into the living room before he can hand off the next “tag” to our 2 year old. HA!

I nurse the baby again, get him back to sleep when ‘tag’, I hear “Mom, I need you to sign my notebook” so off I go, then the big ‘Tag’ our 2 year old is the grumpiest little guy in the morning. I really drudge this “tag” more than any of them……it takes almost all of us to get him happy and settled back down when you guessed it, ‘Tag’, “Honey I am leaving, kiss me goodbye”. My only ally leaving me.

The tagging then gets passed back and forth throughout the day; it is a miracle if the two little guys sleep at the same time. So I ask……. Who is really “it” in this game of ‘tag’? anyway?

Hmmm, seems like I’m “it”…….
